Calming Down

The turtle wedding invites have been ordered. I really didn't need to order them this early, but getting them on order makes my mother leave me alone about designing the invites herself. After the eighth phone call yesterday (she called twice while I was at the gym) I started ignoring her. It went to voicemail while I was at the gym and I didn't answer her 20 emails.

She called shortly after 24 ended to apologize for "overstepping her bounds". I think my dad must have said something. Or, the fact that I was at the gym and not answering the phone made her think I was mad at her. Either way, it worked and she's conceeded to let me order my wedding invitations any way I want. THANK GOD!

After discussing with G, we ordered the turtles. We'll print them out at home together. The spreadsheets of letters sent, responses received, gifts, thank you cards , etc are being generated.

There was so retail therapy yesterday after phone call number 4. I went and bought shoes at Target. I went for toothpaste, TP, and dish soap... and came back with lots of cute sandals and some new flip flops to replace the ones the dog peed on. (long story)

I finally have my internet back at work ! YAY !! Now my blogging will be back up to regular speed.

The more you say no... the more I say yes

My mother is FRANTICALLY trying to convince me not to get the turtle wedding invites. She hates them.

G and I really like them.. we also like this other one with flamingos on it (which my mother also detests). So, now G and I are joking we're going to get the turtle invites with flamingo response cards. :)

The more she pushes against me... the more I'm going to do it just to spite her. It's my wedding... if I like the turtles I like the turtles. (She doesn't think they look like turtles, by the way). I guess my mother's never spent any time in a surf community.. those turtles are on EVERYTHING! Drive through CA once or twice, you'll see them everywhere!

Here are the flamingos:

Deciding on Invites

Choice ONE

Choice TWO

I'm trying to decide between these two invites:

Choice two is cheaper and I could print out at home for less than 100 dollars. You also have to imagine the wording formatted on the invite. The first is more expensive, but muti-colored and cute.

Which one do y'all like ???

Freakin' Sharks with Freakin' Laser Beams

Today was the big day: my first appointment for laser hair removal. The appointment was god-awful early since I had to be at work by 11am. So, at 7am I rolled out of bed to be at the spa by 745am. (ugh)

Walking into that spa... it's like walking into silicone land. All the girls that work there are um.. enhanced. Kinda funny.

I had to wait a few minutes since they were finishing up with the gentleman who had the appointment before me.

Then, back to the back I go. The office was fairly sparse since they just moved to a new location on Harbour Island. There was only the treatment table and the laser in the room.

The nurse/technician who did my laser treatment was fairly abrubt. She definitely didn't know what I did for a living because she was talking down to me all the time. I guess she never stopped to think that people who can shell out over 800 dollars to have hair removed.. probably going to have good paying jobs and be fairly well-educated. Oh well. Just get one with it...

Underarms .. no sweat ! The laser only really bites when it hits a dense area of pigment (where the hair is fairly close together and dense). Fortunately, my underarm area isn't that dense so it barely even stung. Although, there is this rather distinctive smell. Uchenna, I know you mentioned it before. It basically smells like burnt hair (go figure). But, it's concetrated so it smells pretty bad.

Then, she moves on to the bikini line. She tells me to tell her if it gets to be too much and she'll give me a break. Hell, I've had a Brazilian bikini wax... this should be no problem !! In the beginning it really didn't hurt. But, once she got over the pubic bone.. holy hell! But, unlike waxing.. it was quick and only hurt for two seconds. All in all it hurt WAY less than waxing.. and I only have to go back a few more times.

Since the hair grows in cycles it won't start falling out for about two weeks. I'll keep waiting. I'm so excited at the thought of never shaving again !! heaven!

my next appointment is in March.

Funny search hit of the day

"Optometrist hit by lightening" : For the record, it wasn't me...

And, I still have no DSL at work. *argh!* My front desk did got postal on Verizon today and so we got our entire month comped. Yay! They also PROMISED us it would be there tomorrow. After the Overstock.com fiasco.. I'll believe it when I see it.

No Internet..... NOOOOOO !!

So, the DSL has been out at work for three days now. I'm going crazy. I'm so used to getting things done at work I don't know what to do when there's no internet.

yesterday, we were fairly steady at work (for a Tuesday) and I still read 70 pages of my book.

Today I finished two entire magazines and fielded calls from the place in Hawaii I'm considering having my wedding dinner at. They're emailing me fixed price menus and photos of the site.

I also discovered today that my favorite wedding invitations that I saw at Crane and Company just before Christmas... have gone out of print. They sold out. Which means I'm back to square one on invitations. After spending most of the evening playing on websites I have yet to find something I like half as much. It was simple, fun and able to be printed at home. What I've found is cheesy, schmaltzy, hideously flowery, or horribly overpriced. (ie 50 cards for 400 dollars !!)

Thank god I'm only doing this wedding stuff for four months. I'd go crazy if it were any longer.

The date is set !

It's official !! I'm getting married May 24th , 2006 at 5pm on Ko'Olina Beach on the Island of Oahu. ooooo sunset pictures !!

Nobody's Home

When I got to work this morning this office was locked up. (at 11am) The store was supposed to open at 10am !! Where was everyone.

My associate had already made three or four phone calls to figure out what was going on. Thanks to a scheduling mix up one of the two people with a key were not available to open the office.

so, i sat at the coffee bar downstairs and read a magazine. Lost two patients due to a closed office... and grumbled to myself.

the store opened at 1145am. *sigh*

I am NOT a comittee!

Bonus points to anyone who got the vague Star Wars reference.

My Monday off was actually rather eventful as far as days off go.

The dog woke me up early (as dogs do) for his morning walk and breakfast. I couldn't get back to sleep so i managed to get up fairly early for a day off.

I spent most of the morning cleaning my condo, which needed a good cleaning. Things were picked up, but the bathroom floor needed mopping, the place can ALWAYS use a vacuum secondary to the dog, and just general counter scrubbing and the like. I felt so productive. I definitely have to be in the right mood to clean.. I hate cleaning.

One of my friends called me after the cleaning to go shopping. (which normally I hate) There were lots of MLK Day sales going on so I caved and said yes. I only lasted an hour and a half , but I did find some cute outfits for work.

Then, late afternoon I had a consulation for laser hair removal, which is currently all the rage in Tampa. I have more than three friends going through it right now. the guy at the spa was really nice.. it's a shiny new office. They were going to do legs, bikini line, and underarms for 2800 as many treatments as it takes. Which, calling some other places is a good deal. They said I'd be a great candidate since my hair is so dark... should work beautifully.

After discussing options with G.. he was a little taken aback by the cost. It's definitely a convience procedure. But, I look at is as my LASIK surgery. I can't do LASIK and back when G did LASIK it cost over 5000 dollars. I look at that as convience too, but he didn't seem to think of it as the same. So, we negotiated and I'm going to do just my bikini line and underarms and save my legs for another time. (it's the legs that make the procedure really pricy) They want 2000 just for your legs alone.

I'm not used to discussing my finaces with someone. I guess I have to get used to it. Finance by comittee. We have a spread sheet in priority order of things we want to get for the house... leg lasering... not on it. If it were just me alone and single.. I'd definitely be doing all of it. But, I have to think of our little family now. :)

Getting it right the first time

Is it too much to ask that someone do their job correctly ? Preferably the first time! Today after MUCH delay my bed parts finally arrived from Overstock. They FedEx guy knocked at 8am and dropped the box before I had a chance to sign for it.

Had I been given the chance.. I would have sent the damn box straight back to them!! They sent me a box of SLATS! yes, I did need king sized slats, but I specifically asked for a box that said rails/4 slats. It's a box SPECIFICALLY for my bed. A box of slats isn't going to do me much good when I now still have Cal. King sized bedrails. Good lord people are you FRACKING mentally handicapped !!! Jesus Christ!

so, in a voice of reason G went the computer to look up how much longer a Cal. King is than a standard. Fortunately, it's only 4 inches longer. So, G's going to put the bed together while I'm at work... and see if that four inches really shows up when you put the box spring on the bed. I'm hoping that with our fluffy down comforter it won't really show. I'm not really pissed about my bed looking wrong.. I'm pissed about the fact that they have SIX WEEKS to fix my order and they STILL F-ed it up !!! This just re-iterates the fact that I am NEVER shopping with overstock again !!

For those following along now.. here's what's sitting in my house:

King sized Headboard
King sized Footboard
Cal. King sized bed rails
4 Cal. king sized bed slats
1 box of TWELVE Standard king sized slats (they shipped me a box of plain slats, NOT the slats for my bed... but at least they're the same company)

Does ANY of this equal the bed I ordered ??!!! Hell no. It just can all go together to make a bed... four inches too long.

I'm ready to murder. G doesnt seem to think it's a big deal.. he's just happy to not have to sleep on the floor anymore.

waking up

I didn't get up and go running this morning. It's always more tempting to stay in bed with G where it's warm when he's home. Having him home is not conducive to getting up early to work out. Oh well.

Now I sit at work, waiting for the day to end so I can go to the hockey game tonight. Seven more hours. I can dooo eeeeett !!

Living Under a Rock

This morning I was getting ready for work and listening to the Today show. (I usually turn it on for noise as I'm getting ready) Katie Couric said something like, "unless you've been living under a rock the last few days.. you know the Brad and Angelina are expecting their first child". What?! Guess I've been living under a rock. I had no idea. Honestly, I don't really care. The fascination with celebrity I totally understand, I just try not to be wrapped up in it. Although, with the media blitz they get these days it's hard not to. Stars are human... that's all I've basically learned. It's just publicized when they do something the rest of us do every day.

Tomorrow night G and i are headed to a Lightening game with two of my co-workers. G's never been to a hockey game so it should be lots of fun! I like to watch hockey while I'm at a rink, but it's not something I usually follow on TV. Same with baseball.. unless it's the Astros or RedSox.

My UT championship shirt shipped yesterday. So, now I'm waiting on both that and my bed rails. Bed should get here saturday so G'll have to sign for it. (he has written instructions on what the box is supposed to say before he signs) There's no way I'm going through all of this again if Overstock shipped me a second headboard instead of my rails. (I cringe just thinking about it) And of course, now they've fixed their mistake six weeks later... they're kissing my ass. I've gotten three apology emails since yesterday. Too little too late guys!! Where were you four weeks ago!

There's been some drama at work, but I don't want to write about it while I'm at work. So, I'll leave it for another day. I'm probably taking it way to sensitively, but it's my job and I don't take well to people criticizing me to my boss behind my back. (especially when they don't employ me, make my decisions, or even get any say in how I treat my patients). But, I'll eloborate more on that this weekend. Ahhh bureaocrasy! (sp?) I know... I can't spell. Leave me alone. Blogger's spell check never works for me.

Shipment!

For those of you playing along at home... my bed rails shipped today !!! yay !!

It's only took them SIX FREAKIN' WEEKS !!!! But, it's official.. I have a tracking number. Now we just cross our fingers and make they shipped the correct freakin' box ! With my luck they shipped me a second headboard.

Still on the floor

It's been six weeks now since I reported to Overstock.com that they shipped my bed the wrong size. SIX.. WEEKS! I've been calling them every two days harassing them to figure out what the hell is the problem. They also know I'm still sleeping on a mattress on the FLOOR!

I can sing their hold music, half the customer service reps cringe when they heard my voice. I know two or three of them by name now. I've got the extensions to three different upper level supervisors!

Today I finally got through to someone who didn't sound like she had her head firmly implanted up her ass. She told me she hadn't seen a case/order as bad as mine in a loooong time. Apparently she found out they were contacting the WRONG WAREHOUSE! So, of COURSE they can't ship something they don't stock. (and they were telling the service reps that). Apparently no one there was quick enough to figure out that hey, maybe we're doing this wrong.....

So, I now have this service reps direct extension, a promise of a phone call tomorrow morning by 12 noon, and a 50 dollar store credit. (joy)

Now I wait and see if this actually pans out. I'm jaded now since I've been told this will "all be taken care of", and "i'll call you with more info tomorrow" for the last six weeks now. She could tell I was jaded and very upset. But, dammit I want my bed !!

2005 National Champions! Posted by Picasa

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS !!!

After five weeks of hearing how the USC trojans were the second coming.... the Texas Longhorns stepped up last night and WON the national title game ! YAY !!

I stayed up til 1 am talking on the phone and yelling with friends back in Texas. Well, after I could get through to them anyway. when I tried to call Erin in San Antonio and Suzy in Brownsville I kept getting "all circuits are busy now". I think every UT alum in Texas was on the phone all at once. (and there are a lot of us!)

Greg actually had to admit he was wrong! It was sweet.

I'm sporting my UT shirt to work today... unprofessional attire be damned!

I really do hope Vince Young stays for another year at Texas. I'd totally understand though if he wants to go out on top and go into the draft. Although, he'd go number 3 behind Bush and Leinart.

The best part today has been watching all the ESPN writers back-pedal and say they "knew" Texas could do it. bullshit.. they've been hyping USC all week. The only one who picked Texas was Lee Corso (cuz he always does no matter what)

I went on the co-op website already and ordered my national champions t-shirt. not the locker room one cuz I think they're ugly, but an appropriately girly t-shirt with a Rose and the National Champions scroll work on it.

Cuz we're the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS baby !!

Weird blog hits

Time for this week's round of Weird Blog Hits:

"She had to pee": this one was actually in quotes meaning someone typed this in word for word in google. Granted, I have the world's tiniest girly bladder, but I never remember blogging about it. Huh.

"turquoise cowboy boots"
: Now this one I do remember blogging about. My first day of work a woman at CPK asked me to validate the purchase of her 500 dollar atrocious turquoise boots. Hideous !

The other hits are all about optometry, wal-mart optometry, and optometry sucks. (which it doesn't by the way)

Is it too late to elope?

I've been engaged a little over a week... and I'm already set to elope. The constant barrage of emails is already getting to me.. I haven't even picked date yet and I'm already getting emails about invitations, my dress, what my parents should WEAR TO THE WEDDING!!, ETC. If this keeps up I'm not going to make it four months. This is main reason I told G I'd rather get married sooner rather than later. Four months of this is about all I can take.

G and I tried to go play tennis both Sunday and Monday afternoons. I haven't gotten to go practice since my first lesson due to our schedules and me starting a new job. So, Sunday we jump in the car to go to our court, only for it to start pouring half way there. We had to turn the car around and go home. yesterday, turned out to be GORGEOUS and so we decided to try again. This time we actually got all the way to the tennis court, only to discover they were re-surfacing them. We thought of going over to the clay courts on Davis Island, but G doesn't think I'm quite ready for clay yet since I'm just mastering hitting the ball and the Davis Island courts you have to pay for time on. Bleh.

G has gotten both of us addicted to this puzzle game I'm seeing popping up everywhere. It's called Sudoku and it's a logic puzzle of 81 squares. You have to put the numbers 1-9 in the square and non of them can be repeated in any column or row. It's definitely harder than it sounds. They can range from fairly easy to diabolically hard. G and I are hooked. The London Daily Telegraph and LA Times run them daily in their paper and they post them online. They have a website you can print them out from here: Sudoku Online

Warning: HIGHLY addictive ! There are links there on the website to hints on how to solve them, but most people make up their own strategies as they go.

Now, I'm back for my first "real" week of work. I'm done working out Dr H's schedule and am on my own schedule. (the Tuesday to Saturday schedule I agreed to when I signed on) I definitely like having two back to back days off!!
