Early to Rise

I was up a little early today. The electricians were coming to wire our living room walls for the new plasma screen. YAY ! So, I had to be up and ready for work before they got here. (especially since they needed to turn off the power to do the wiring)

G was working from home today so he gets to supervise. I decided to head to work a little early. But, I'm now regretting that decision since my first patient this morning no-showed and I dont have anybody else scheduled til 215pm. AHHH! I'm going crazy I'm so bored. Good thing I brought a book.

Now, to bug everyone on my AIM buddy list for entertainment.

Get More

I called T-Mobile at lunch today. My phone has been making an obnoxious high pitched squeal whenever I make a phone call. The guy at the TMobile store even heard it when he picked up my phone without making a call.

So, I called customer service. A very nice lady helped me within TWO minutes. SO NICE to not have to be on hold twenty minutes to do something for a change.

They're sending me a new phone as long as I ship my old one back. But, I have to pay 9 dollars for shipping. It's not my fault the phone is broken... why should I have to pay for shipping ? At least they pay to ship the crap phone back.

I want my Sprint phone back !! I loved my Sprint phone.. I just hated Sprint. Alas they use a different system so I can't even unlock my old phone. Sigh.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

I am no longer CPW. I am now, officially and legally CWH.

I spent the day getting all the errands done to get my name legally changed. I finally got my marriage certificate in the mail Saturday. So, the process begins. And, a process it is. I'm sure no matter how thorough I think I am I'll miss something.

The DMV came first. I had to stand in line twenty minutes TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to come back later today. I had planned on making an appointment last night online, but G told me when he went he was in and out in twenty minutes. WRONG! I went in at 10 and came out at 1025 with an appointment to come back at 230. But, at least it was a start.

Next came the social security office. This turned out to be the second easiest thing I did. I'll get to the first in a moment. All I had to do was turn in my old card and show them my marriage certificate. Done. New card in the mail.

Then the bank to change my accounts. Done

At home I called the credit card companies. THIS was the easiest thing ever! Okay... it's changed. No confirmation. No mailing in of certificate... strictly word of mouth. I asked the woman on the phone why it was so easy. I mean, I could just call up anybody with a card with my first name and change it to my last name. She said "well, you have to have your drivers license match your credit cards so you can use them, right?". Um... no. The only people that EVER check my ID with a card are the people at Starbucks when I don't have enough cash and pull out my check card. I couldn't tell you the last time I got carded on my credit card. It was kinda unnerving how easy it was to change my credit statements with no proof what so ever that I was who I said I was. (well, other than my "security question" which anyone who knows me could figure out)*sigh* End rant.

So, after thirty years my name is different. It's going to take me a long time to get used to. It's bittersweet. I really liked my name. But, now I have a new one to start a new life with. With G.

Even after college.. free food is still good !!

Last night was the first meeting I was able to attend of HCOS. (Hillsborough County Optometric Society)

I learned a few things. Which, is good since I got two hours of CE for going. (Not that I really need CE credits right now, but still)

1.) There are almost NO women in the society. There were only three of us there.

2.) Mercury and cilantro bind to the same receptors. So, if you cook your fish with fresh cilantro you'll absorb less mercury! Cool !

3.) I also learned where to get killer cheap-as-hell Cuban food. SO good! I had puerco asado, yellow rice, and plantains. SO GOOD! And, only 5.50.

One of the other female docs was right about my age. So, we'll probably end up doing a few things together. Should be fun, hopefully. she works out in Sun City. (the retirement town) her office is probably the exact opposite of mine.

Tiger got to play for the evening with his girlfriend Dolce (my friend Denise's doggie). They have a great time together. I watched Dolce a few nights ago when Denise had a paper to write. So, she watched Tiger tonight while I was at my dinner. So nice to have someone who can do that with me.

I still have NO update on my condo plumbing disaster. I emailed the condo board president again today to see if I could get the name of a contact with the building company. This is going to be a nightmare to try and repair I can tell already. sigh.

Full Weekend

Since my boss is out of town on a cruise this week.. I'm working six out of the next seven days. But, he made it up to me by giving me last Friday and Saturday off. I can't tell you the last time I had a Saturday off without asking for it.

Friday was my day at Let's Eat, so G and I would have food in the house again. (always a plus) One of the girls I met who works there is a junior college student in Boston. She's pre-med so of course I had to tell her about SDN. She's also considering other health fields so I gave her my card in case she wants to see what optometry is all about. She sounded very excited about it. Hopefully she'll call.

We finally had a plumber come out to replace our guest room faucet. We've had no hot water in our guest room shower since we moved in. The plumber brought the parts with him to fix our shower, and then realized our hot water is not connected to the complex's main hot water supply. AHH! That's what we were afraid of !! How could someone live there almost three YEARS before us and not notice this or report it to get it fixed. I reported it to the condo association and now we wait and see what to do next. But, since this is a building problem I am NOT paying to fix it. Especially since they're probably going to have to rip my walls apart to do it. *sigh*

Saturday I got up early to head to HCC for my tennis lesson. Three hours of hitting balls. My backhand is starting to look really good actually. I got to meet three new girls around my age. (which is great, I need that) It was so hot I went through FIVE bottles of water. But, we were having a good time. Although, I'm still not used to kids eight years younger than me being my coach. Oh well, they know more than me about it so it's all good, right?

After tennis, I took a much needed cold shower and headed out with G for lunch. we decided to try out hand at looking at TVs again. Ours is dying at home and it's not pretty. The sound is going and the picture is getting darker and darker every week. It's time to put it out of its misery.

We found a GREAT sale on the Samsung we'd been eye-balling. So, we bought it. 42" plasma flat screen. We should get it in two weeks. G is so excited. The nice thing about the delay in ordering is that it gives us time to get our wall wired to mount it. We have to get them to run a new outlet, mount the bracket, etc. Now we can finally have HDTV. I got spoiled at my parents house. We're going to re-arrange the furniture in the house, too. Hopefully it'll make our room look bigger.

I spent Sunday working, so .. not much to talk about there. I did, however finally get my professional wedding pictures back. Some of them came out really nice. I'm going to get the final roll put on photo CD so I can make a slideshow to send to friends. It'll have to wait til Friday though, when I'm off work.

Tiger update

Tiger has been on phenobarbital for six weeks now.I was starting to hope for the best. The vet had said he's on the lowest possible end of the therapeutic range for Pb, but we'd leave him there as long as we didn't have more seizures.

Last night about midnight I was reading in bed. The dog started pacing next to the bed. I thought he just wanted on the bed, so I called him up. He wouldn't jump and just head butted my hand. I finally clued in and tried to get him to an open spot of the room. The one good thing about dogs, they know it's coming.

Fortunately, the seizure was MUCH smaller and shorter than the ones he normally has without Pb. He only had the petit mal seizure where his front and back legs seize and he's pretty much conscious of what's going on. He never progressed into the grand mal like he did pre-meds. Thank goodness! The seizure was about three minutes.

So, I called his vet. We're going to up his dosage to 75mg BID and see how we do. *crosses fingers* I'll pick up the extra meds tomorrow on my day off!

Busy Day

I've been pretty busy today, surprisingly! I like it so much better at work when we're busy. It makes the day go by, I get to meet lots of people, and it makes me happy!

I'm also in a good mood because G comes home tonight. I also get Friday and Saturday off. I can't tell you the last time I had a Saturday off.

I'm starting to get more blog hits from other countries now. I think it's all this talk about Hawaii. Most of my search hits are now things about Oahu and hotels. Why they're clicking on my blog, I'm not sure, but welcome!

This week i've had hits from: the UK (hi Fiona!), Taiwan, India, France and Norway. And of course, the good 'ol US. I think it's kinda cool that my blog is getting outside the US now. Kinda fun!

Honeymoon blogs

I'm slowly getting through the wedding/honeymoon blogs. If you only read my top post every day make sure you scroll down to check out what I've done recently. I'm adding more honeymoon days every day! I'm almost through with our first week in Hawaii !

I'm trying to add lots of pictures to make it fun.

And no, for those playing the home game, I STILL don't have my professional shots. I'm emailing Steve today.

Friends from Home

I got a random email tonight from a friend from undergrad. She was a chem grad student at UT while I was in undergrad. We had the same circle of friends and got to know each other pretty well.

Apparently, she was in town on business !! Sweet !!

So, I grabbed my cell and called her back. We made plans to meet up for dinner. Being the nice lady I am I drove all the way to Oldsmar to get them. Although, in my defense from the street address they gave me I thought they were in downtown Tampa. Thank goodness for Mapquest. I put in the address and it came up with Oldsmar. It's only a twenty minute drive though so I can't complain too much.

I picked up Tina and her friend, Libby who were here on a training session for work. we headed back to Tampa and hit Water for sushi. mmmm sushi.

It was so great to see people from Austin! I can't believe how nice it was to see someone who's known me longer than six months! So nice. We caught up on what's going on with our lives. And it was so good to reconnect with her. We'll definitely have to stay in touch from now on.

Good luck on the marathon, Tina! You'll do great! I loved TnT when I did it. :)

Tropical Storm Alberto

Fortunately, TS Alberto was kind of a non-event. Lots of rain, not much wind. Most of it shifted north of us.

The only unfortunate part, is that it didn't get bad enough to keep G here for the week. He was kinda hoping he wouldn't have to fly out this week for work. But, he's in Houston. Oh well.

Today, I also got my first official piece of mail addressed to my new name. Yay health benefits! :)

Blogger down time

In my defense, I tried to blog yesterday. Blogger wouldn't let me. Stupid maintanence.

So, I used my downtime to catch up on my thank you notes for wedding/honeymoon presents. Only six more cards to go !!

But, since Blogger's back up and running I'll probably try to get another day or two of vacation blogged. (yay pictures!)
