Dog Sitting

My friend Denise went to Fort Myers for the weekend to visit a friend who's moving to Israel. She asked me to walk her dog Saturday after work. Denise's dog Dolce is Tiger's best friend. They LOVE each other. so, after work I walked Dolce and brought her over here to play with Tiger. Tons of chasing, tug-o-war, and romping insued. Dolce's a little more vocal than Tiger so after 1130 I had to take her home. i was going to let her sleep here with us, but she and Tiger kept wanting to play and we knew we'd get no sleep. (no good for G's only night all week to sleep in) So, Dolce went back home to sleep

This morning, G and I were walking home from lunch and I decided to check on Dolce to see if Denise's other friend had come to pick her up. (she was supposed to come before 11am). It was now 1240 and Dolce was still home. Poor doggie. So, I ran the poor thing downstairs (it'd been almost twelve hours since she'd gone walkies) and now she's happily playing at my house. I left a note on Denises door in case her friend decides to show up telling her that Dolce is at my house. Poor puppy. At least she's back and happily playing with Tiger now. I feel so bad for her. I left a message for Denise telling her I have the dog, just in case her friend doesn't see the note I left .

Back to puppy play time !!

Reputation

Apparently I'm starting to build a reputation. I'm starting to get patients coming in telling me their friends told them to come see me. It makes me very VERY happy. Our office tries really hard to have great customer service. We only get nasty when you make us (like not returning for your follow-up appointment for six months)

Dr F, my boss from the For Eyes near USF (the VA office I worked at) came by the mall on Wednesday to say hello. I was very happy to see him. the office was much nicer than he expected and I'm doing much better than he expected. yay me! he was very nice and we're going to have to catch up again more when he's back in town. Apparently half the office staff I used to work with are not longer at his office. Iiiinteresting. This includes the friend I tried to get a job at my office. (Which Dr F was shocked to hear about... he had no idea she called me)

The internet is still out. Verizon is supposed to get me a new router by tomorrow. THEY BETTER !!

I found my cousin Steve's book is coming out July 11th. (Thank you Amazon.com) For anyone curious the book is titled Blackstaff : The Wizards. Buy it, my cousin wrote it !! :) I'm SO proud of him !!!!!

Now I'm back to staring at flight trackers. G's flight is 1.5 hours late! Again!!

Internet

The internet is out at work... AGAIN !! It's driving me crazy !!

Sunday shoppers

G and I spent our Sunday off shopping. (so not normal for us) We slept in, which we both needed since G is still sick. Mostly swollen glands and congestion, his fever seems to be gone thank goodness.

We headed off to Champps for lunch, where I was proclaimed an expensive date. (even after I paid for dinner Saturday night) Then, we tromped off to look at wedding rings for G. G very quickly narrowed down the field to four rings. Most of the ones he liked where white gold. He did pick out one that was titanium which was pretty cool. He then narrowed down to two. Many cracks were made about skin tone, palmability into the pocket for a quick "no-I'm-not-married" manuver, and how shiny the ring is to repel women. Although, I know that wedding rings usually do the opposite. Finally G settled on a ring of white gold, with two grooves running around it. It's a very nice ring. I'll see if I can find a picture of it to post. G's ring isn't EXACTLY like this. The area between the two rings on his ring is brushed. It's much prettier than the picture. This is just the closest I can find on short notice.

After that we spent the afternoon looking at flat screen TVs. We found quite a few we liked and narrowed down the field. But, we want to spend more time researching before we buy one. we're also not dead set on getting a TV before we get the floors or window blinds done.

After all the shopping we spent time relaxing and getting G ready to head back to Houston.

Slow Saturday

It's so slow at work today I'm going to scream if I don't do something soon. I've seen three patients all day.. and one of them was a full exam (the other two were contact lens checks)

Make it stop !! I'm so bored. I'd much rather be totally busy than staring at the clock.

Work Drama

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with posting, but I've been really busy the last few days.

Tuesday was drama filled at work. Dr BW hired a new technician to replace one he's taking over to Tyrone Mall. (he's taking my favorite tech by the way) :( One of the current techs was VERY upset about the days this new girl can work. Now, she'll have to change HER schedule, blah blah blah. Yeah, not my problem I didnt hire her... please go bitch to him. She proceeds to call my boss to yell at him about the new hire FIVE TIMES!! FIVE!! Boss is less than pleased. New hire, by the way, SUPER sweet girl. (great student at USF studying for the MCAT)

Tuesday night I de-stress by going to Let's Eat to prep meals. I'm jazzed going there knowing this is all the food I have to get us through til the wedding !! yay the wedding!! I'm a little bummed when I get there because I'm alone. Let's Eat is something I always did with Dr M and it hit me full force Tuesday night that's she's truly leaving. That made me kinda sad. The two girls working there Tuesday night were super sweet (Ashley, who's always there and a new girl named Holly) They kept me company and chatted with me all night. There was only one other couple there so after they left I was all alone with the two employees. I promised them wedding pictures when I get back.

Wednesday night was a slow day at work and running with the dog. (not too exciting)

Thursday was more work. More drama (it's always the same tech causing the drama)... and her proceeding to tell me that I don't do anything "correctly". WHAT?! I just don't do things they way YOU would .. that doesn't make me WRONG. During the rest of the day she just got more and more hurtful. I know things stress her out easily, but that's no reason to take them out on me. I, personally, think I'm doing a kick ass job here if I do say so myself. I did break down and call my boss on her today, because I just couldn't stew about it any longer and i had to let him know what was being said. He reassured me that he thinks I'm doing a great job, he'll talk to her, he knows she's going through some personal stuff right now that I don't know about, and he'll take care of it. It sounded good, I just hope it pans out.

Thursday night I went to a dinner sponsered by Bausch and Lomb about some of their products. The dinner was at the Museum of Science and very nice. They spent the entire hour talking about contact lenses that they make and all of ONE MINUTE talking about Renu, fungus, and their product being PULLED OFF SHELVES!! That's not important at all right ? I'm sure no one had questions about it. I only had three patients on saturday panicing about it. No big deal. I did however, walk out of the lecture with a free iPod. It's good to be the doctor.

Today is somewhat relaxing at work. My favorite tech and the new tech are here. Both are very relaxed so I'm not as stressed as I was Tuesday and Thursday. G is home and although he's sick right now.. I'm happier when he's here. I'm looking foward to a nice salmon dinner tonight with a big glass of wine. mmmm wine. 30 minutes to go !! yay!! I'd say TGIF , but I have to work tomorrow. *sigh*

Easter in Gainesville

G and I drove up to my parents new house in Gainesville for Sunday dinner. Tiger spent the entire trip up there looking out the window or with his head over my or G's shoulder.

My parents house is SO CUTE ! The entire house is tiled except for the master bedroom, which has hardwood floors. Lots of huge windows and bathroom skylights. A doggie door to the fenced-in back yard. A cute porch with two big cushy chairs (to read in of course). Yes, it's lots smaller than what they had in Houston for the same price as Houston. But, they don't really need anything bigger than that. Dave and I are in different cities and we're both married or soon-to-be married. Heck, Dave has even popped out a grandkid.

I wish I had taken pictures of the house. (the inside, I have one of the outside)

Dinner was delicious: ham, pineapple with cheese, green beans, yams. MMM! I got to chat with my Aunt and Uncle who came for dinner, also. We just had a lovely time.

G and I headed back to Tampa about 330pm for the two hour drive home. It's about 130 miles door to door to the new house. I wanted G to have time to relax and pack before he had to get up super early to go back to Houston. Poor G. Him and his 650am flights. that must really get old.

Crazy Saturday

For a day that had two exams and seven contact lens checks on the schedule, Saturday turned into a crazy day. The first hour started off slowly, and then things just took off. I think everyone came in because of the holiday weekend. The shopping day before everyone saw family for Easter dinner.

I ended up being crazy busy and making some bonus money. Yay bonus money!

I had one patient pass out on me. Vasovagal... and it's always men. I went out to get his wife and she wasn't too terribly suprised.

I also had the ever-popular intoxicated patient. I guess everybody celebrates Easter in his/her own special way, eh?

I was very glad to come home to G, who had dinner ready for me. (and a nice glass of wine) Ahhh!

Mas pina coladas, por favor

After three and a half days in Mexico, I didn't want to come back. I easily could have stayed at the resort for weeks.

I met up with G Thursday in Houston before our flight to Cancun. I also ran into terminal E to pick up my friend Erin from her flight in from San Antonio. (She had arranged to fly into Cancun on our flight so we could travel together) Playa del Carmen is a 45 minute van ride from Cancun. There was only one other couple in our van so it was a nice leisurely ride down there. Although, it was quite a bit of flying for me... two hours to Houston and then two more hours from Houston to Cancun.

The hotel/resort was BEAUTIFUL! My only complaint the entire time was that our bed was a brick. Instead of a large king bed they pushed two double beds together. (Complete with two comforters and a giant crack in the middle) How romantic. But, the resort was spotlessly clean, the staff was uber-friendly, and all inclusive. So, all I had to do for three days was lie on the beach and ask the waiter to bring me more drinks. HEAVEN!

Daniel and Ashley got married Saturday afternoon. It was brutally hot, but a lovely ceremony. It was the first time I think more people were thrilled to see the groom walk down the aisle. Daniel was hit by a car two days after Christmas. He broke his pelvis and was only supposed to be walking with a walker at this point. Not only is he now walking without a walker, he went parasailing, climbed the stairs, etc. Not to say he wasn't in pain, but I'm sure being in Mexico with Ashley for the wedding made it worth it. We had time to head back out to the pool after the wedding and before dinner. It was amazing how many showers I had to take a day between the beach sand, sunscreen, and the opressive heat. But, I didnt mind in the least.

Dinner at the resorts was by reservation. (if you didn't want to eat in the large cafeteria) The first night Erin and I tried to get reservations for the gourment restaurant but they were booked until 930 and we didnt' want to eat that late. So, we ended up at a Brazilian steak house. Not quite Fogo de Chao (cuz not much is) but good. The grilled pineapple was FABULOUS! I also had my fill of plantains. mmm

Saturday night we had a lovely dinner on the beach with the wedding party. Salmon for me, prime rib for G. Also very yummy. Their salad bars were killer too!

sunday everyone was packing up. The wind and surf finally died down enough for them to take down the red flags. So, we attempted to go windsurfing. (which was part of the all-inclusive package) But, the guide didn't seem real keen on taking us out so we decided to save that adventure for hawaii. I don't want to have a lesson with someone who's not jazzed about teaching me. So, G and I trotted off to play tennis instead. Between saturday and sunday I played two hours of tennis. My forehand is getting much much better. I've redeemed my dismal performance the last Sunday we went to play in Tampa off Henderson.

Sunday early afternoon we said goodbye to Ash and Dan (who had just gotten back from parasailing) and headed back home. G back to Houston for another week of work and myself to Tampa. I also had a fuzzy doggie waiting for me who was very happy to see mom when she strolled in at 1230am.

It was a beautiful , fun, and relaxing weekend. To anyone looking into a trip to mexico I would HIGHLY recommend Playa del Carmen and the Riu Palace Mexico. Playa is much more laid back than the party town of Cancun. (which I needed desperately)

Memes again.

Blah

I feel achy and run down. I went to bed early last night (10pm) to try to catch up on some sleep. I figured I was just extra tired from getting up at 5am to take G to the airport. No such luck. I woke up this morning feeling even worse than when I went to bed. Blah. I BETTER not be getting sick before my vacation Thursday. I'd be very upset. I always get sick on vacation. I got food poisoning the last time I went to Mexico! Not pleasant.

I love my job!

My last patient was the wife of a Yankees pitcher. Very very sweet woman. Her mom was with her visiting, too. I'll have to see if G knows who her husband is. :) I'm sure he does because even I've heard of him.

Weekend.. what weekend ?

I had my busiest Saturday ever at this office two days ago. It really wasn't that many patients, but they were ALL contact lens patients. The contact lens patients pay more and therefore I make more. I was able to make up for an entire day off this week with the bonus money I made on Saturday. Pretty sweet deal if I do say so myself. I actually prefer it busy. I'm in my office less, surfing the internet less, and it just makes my day go so much faster.

Sunday, as I'm sure you're aware, started DST. Unlike Suz, I actually like DST. Although, I do agree it would be so much easier if we just stayed on it year round. I like it for the mere reason that it's not dark when I get home from work. I can take the doggie running with me before it gets dark. It makes me happy and it of course makes the doggie happy.

I attempted to go play tennis with G on Sunday. For some reason my head wasn't in it and I played like crap. I did so much better last time we went. I ended up getting so frustrated with myself G told me to take off early since it was making it un-fun for both of us. It just felt like this weeks training was a GIANT step backwards. I did so sucky I didn't even get to work on my backhand. My forehand still looked like ass. I have to try to find a practice wall somewhere to practice by myself so I don't have to torture G any more. I feel bad for him. He needs to get out and have someone to actually play a real game with.

The rest of the day was spend cleaning the house and doing laundry in preparation for our trip to Mexico this week for Ashley's wedding. I'm so very excited. Is it wrong that I'm more excited to see my friends than I am to go to the wedding ? But, isn't that the way it always is with weddings. I don't know many people other than the bride and groom that are actually excited about the wedding itself.

I'm trying to wake up at work this morning. I got up at 5am to take G to the airport. Otherwise he'd have to leave his car at the airport for two weeks. And, that's just too darn expensive. So, in taking one for the team I drove him, then came home, but couldn't get back to sleep. I'm dragging big time at work. It's going to be a really long, slow day today, too. Oh well. I'm here... and it makes up for a day I'm taking off. So, I'll take it.
