Sideways

Even though today was raining and muggy, it was a good day. I managed to get up relatively early for me on a Sunday (830am) and headed out for a run with the dog. Which, is something we both thoroughly enjoy.

After the run, I got ready to go out and headed down to Buffalo Speedway to meet up with a friend for a fish taco lunch. I LOVE the fish tacos at Berry Hill. If you're in Houston and haven't been there, you're missing out !!

We went to River Oaks to see the movie Sideways which i'd been hearing great things about. It was a FABULOUS movie. It makes you laugh and stop and think. There's one character you'll love to hate, but you just can't help but love him too. We all know at least one guy like him. And, you'll hope to have at least one friend as good as his future best man. If you haven't seen the movie... I HIGHLY recommend it. It did make me miss the rolling hills and wine country of california, though. :(

Now, I have to remember how to study. They're testing us tomorrow over the two day all-weekend seminar they made me sit through at the beginning of the month. JOY! so, I actually have to study this evening. JOY! I wonder if I remember how. Hmmmm. Guess we'll find out.

All this though, after I eat and watch "Extreme Makeover Home". I love that show !!

Grow up already

When are people on SDN going to stop attacking the ODs?? The dumbest part is most of the ones doing the attacking are pre-meds who have no CLUE what they're talking about. Optometrists aren't less of a person because they didn't go to medical school. don't judge me cuz I didn't make the same choices in life you did. I found the niche that's right for me.

sometimes I think it's just the SDN bubble. The third year baylor med students I met on Thursday were very nice and very fascinated by the things I showed them. (and what UHCO has to offer)No one judged me and no one implied I didn't know something.

So, why does that have to be different on SDN ???

Hunter

I just hunted down a doctor's office based on the patient knowing only that they were at the intersection on two main streets. First try too !! WHOO HOO !! I thought that was going to take me two hours to get her records. yay!

Fairly Slow

Today is also a fairly slow day in Vision Rehab. I have only one patient at 10:45am. I'll be done by lunch time, but can I go home.. NO! Oh well. I'm working a contact lens study tonight anyway. I don't get to do much on the study since I'm not licensed, but I'll be making 10 bucks and hour just to take VA's. I can do that for 5 hours for 50 bucks. At this point in my career after 4 years of OD school and NO money... I'm cheap (and easy to convince to do things). yes, I said it, I'm cheap and easy.

It has been a productive morning. I got my dentist appointment made, helped others register for our Part 3 boards (see, like I said yesterday.. procrastinating... ask Christine she's already done). I found out it's cheapest to go to CVS for passport photos. (12 for 6 bucks) I sent off my CV to the recruiter for my Florida interview over Spring Break. yay interview !! And now, I have time to work on my personal financial statement due for practice management on Friday.

I feel so productive !!

Pet Peeve

People asking me to do their work for them has become my biggest pet peeve lately. Apparently, in my class people know that usually I'm on the ball and hyper-organized. which, to me, is a good thing I guess. Now, to my class' procrastinators, they love me. Don't know how to do something .... just ask Christine !! She'll know when this project is due, who to email this to, how to answer this homework problem, when our Texas Optometry Board paperwork is due, etc. I'm ready to SCREAM!! Do your own f-ing research people !! what are you going to do next year when i'm not there to do everything for you !!?? I got great glee today in telling someone I had no CLUE who they were supposed to mail their texas board applications to. I'm not getting a Texas license ! Do your own work for a change and leave me alone.

[thus endith the rant]

End of another week

well, now it's the end of another clinic week. All I have left to do is sit through rounds on Friday. It's so nice to have that done and over with. now, I'm just watching and helping my friends practice.

So, the drama of the day is an email I got from a random person today. This random person supposedly represented half our class. Our whole class knows that one of our classmates is having an affair with a VERY prominent doctor here in Texas. The email stated that our class was going to walk out of graduation if this doctor got to "hood" our cheating classmate. That or they're going to turn their back to the stage when she walks.

Now, have issues with this. I have an issue with them having an affair, yes. they're both married, but they're also both consenting adults able to make their own life decisions. My beef is that the person sending this email is trying to speak on behalf of our class. Now, were this girl trying to be our commencement speaker... I'd have MAJOR issues with that. That I would bring up to the Dean. I don't want a known adulteror representing our class. (and don't email me saying it's all speculation.. it's not... it's been confirmed.. and the whole SCHOOL including the faculty know about it).

I'm sure all hell's going to break loose at school tomorrow once everyone sees this email. DRAMA !! i'm really wondering what the Dean's going to do to address this. It is a legitimate complaint... but I REALLY don't want something like this to take one MINUTE away from what I've worked four years to accomplish.

This is my day and my graduation. I don't want someone else's affair to be front and center. And now that this has been brought up. It will be.

Grades back

I got my grades back this morning for Grand Rounds. I got an A !!!!! yay !!! I'm so excited. I get a 3 hour credit for that , too.

My only patient this morning was a 10 month old with congenital ptosis. He was super cute and fun to work with. He was there with his grandma and it was fun. The one day I actually enjoyed specialty peds. (don't tell Dr Ken)

My only afternoon patient was a simple IOP check to make sure her drops were working. she stopped taking them last week when she ran out. Hmmmmm why is she here again ?? To see if her drops are working... but she's not taking her drops this week... does anyone else here see the dilema ? so now, she has to come back AGAIN !!

I did actually manage to work out today even though it was my eighth straight day of work. I think half the third year class was there. I stopped and chatted with a few of them who said hi . Everyone wants to know about Grand Rounds. It's good to go first and get it over with.. but now the questions begin. (joy!) I don't mind helping that much, though.

Grand Rounds OVER !!!

My Grand Rounds presentation is OVER !! I think it went pretty well. They didn't ask me anything I couldn't answer. Now, I just have to wait and see how they score my presentation. I'm not sure I even care. I'm just glad to be done with it.

Bored in Vision Rehab

So, I'm hanging out in the intern room in our vision rehab clinic. I'm SO glad I raced home from a nice dinner and drinks with friends to be here early today. I've been in clinic since 745am and I've seen not ONE patient. All my morning patients cancelled leaving me only the one at 145pm this afternoon. (who's a short follow-up exam). So, I'm sensing a trend this week. Regular patients don't show up when it's cold and rainy... and the only ones that DO show up are the ones with eye bleeds, infections, and other assorted nasty things. The one patient this afternoon is coming back because her vision has suddenly decreased. She'll probably end up being referred back to the doctor who sent her to vision rehab. Chances are a sudden vision change is something the referring doc will have to deal with (not us). Although we'll look to see if we think there's a problem.

In other news I stalked my Dean today to see if she got my board scores. (they always release them to the school). Since I'm ready to kill my postman... she told me my scores. I KILLED IT !! I scored 292 points over passings. WHEEEE !! I feel so much better now. I knew I passed, you just start to get nervous when your scores get delayed.

T-minus 2 days til Grand Rounds ! I'm practicing in the main auditorium tonight after clinic gets out.

A Post on Monday

Just for Georgina !!

Today: I had one patient. I was done in 15 minutes.

The end.
