Tis the season....
For crazy Tampa Bay Radio promotions.....
Now, I don't normally listen to local radio on the way to work, because I have Sirius. Today, I forgot Sirius because it was docked on my home radio base so I was forced to listen to morning radio. (ugh)
Tampa Bay's big rock radio station is WFLZ and they run the MJ radio show. If I remember correctly he's also simulcast in St Louis, but it's based here in Tampa. For the last week he's been running the Hannah Monstrosity contest. For anyone who's seen "Hands on a Hard Body" it was just like that. They erected a GIANT statue of Hannah Montana and 20 parents were glued to this thing 24 hours a day until there was only one person left standing. It ended yesterday with a man from Port Charlotte cutting a deal with the last woman standing because neither one of them was going to give up. Now, I'd love my kids as much as the next parents, but one: don't these people have jobs!! and two: no matter how much I love my kid my ass is not sleeping in a pile of sand for a WEEK with no shower stuck to a statue of Hannah Montana. Ummmm no. The winner got 4 tickets, backstage passes, and 5,000 dollars. Craziness. Apparently they struck a deal where the guy (the winner) got the four tickets and 3,500 and the woman took the backstage passes and 1500 dollars.
Their OTHER radio promotion is what I really wanted to blog about. Every year around Christmas time, WFLZ does "Jingle Jugs/Boobs". It's just as demeaning as it sounds. They take applications from local women and every day of the twelve days of Christmas they give away a free boob job. Oh lord. The best part is when they read the applications out loud on why these women feel they "deserve" free boobs. Hilarious in a really sad and pathetic way. Now, there are MANY reasons why I would never go for something like this... but the main one would be (other than dignity) I couldn't pick my surgeon. Who knows how good this guy is ?! You could come out looking like a freak show.. but hey, at least they were free, right ?
